4 Risks of DIY Roof Repairs

Taking the DIY route can be a great way for you to get things fixed at home and maybe save some money in the process. However, there are some tasks that should be left to professionals, such as roof repair. Chase Roofing LLC takes a look at the risks you’d be taking with DIY roof repair.

1. Injuries. If you needed only one reason why you should leave roof repair to professionals, here it is. Roofing professionals like us have the safety training and equipment to reduce fall risks, and the warranty coverage to reduce the costs of treatment in case we do get injured. A DIYer, under the same conditions, would be operating at a higher risk and could end up paying for treatment out of pocket.

2. Unprofessional results. An untrained individual tackling roof repairs is more likely to end up with a poorly repaired roof, given the complexity of today’s roofing systems. Because roofs are constantly exposed to wear, small mistakes can become roofing problems that will eventually need to be corrected by a roofing professional.

3. Limited access to equipment and materials. Roof repair requires more than just a hammer and nails. Assuming that you have the know-how, you’ll still need tools and safety gear to ensure quality results. Performing spot repairs would require finding replacement shingles that match the existing roof, which can be difficult to do if the shingles are exclusively sold through licensed contractors. Repairs may also take longer. Unlike DIYers, professional roofers have teams that can be scaled up or down in number depending on the roofing job.

4. No workmanship warranty. Workmanship warranties help protect the client from roofing problems caused by installation mistakes. DIY roof repairs do not have such coverage, which means the cost of correcting installation errors, including hiring roofing professionals to do so, will have to be covered out of pocket.
