A wavy or rippled asphalt shingle roof is a serious issue and must not be ignored. It’s best to have the problem checked by a professional roofer to determine the cause and appropriate solution. Otherwise, you might face severe roof damage and costly repairs.

The framing or sheathing is a layer of wood that is used to attach the roof’s shingles. If the material beneath the shingles is fastened incorrectly, it means the fasteners missed the framing. As a result, nothing will be supporting the plywood, causing it to warp.
Typically, roofers don’t remove more shingles than they can replace on the same day when repairing or replacing shingles. This is because when the felt underneath the shingles is exposed to wet weather or morning dew for a long period, the felt could wrinkle.
If a roofer installs shingles when it is close to freezing outside and doesn’t leave a gap, you may see a wave from expansion. Unfortunately, you can only fix this problem by removing and replacing the shingles. Otherwise, it could lead to your roof’s early wear.
Workmanship issues like incorrect stapling or nailing direction can create ripples on your asphalt shingles. Remember, felt should always be stapled and shingles nailed down in the direction the shingles are being laid. Otherwise, they can be blown off by strong winds, leading to water damage.
